Three Arches Foundation

December 14, 2021 • Grants Update

We’re Expanding With Help From Three Arches Foundation.

The 2021/2022 grant of $99,000 from the Three Arches Foundation supports our new program entitled Empowering Seniors Toward Health Self-Management.

Lakewood Community Services Center has experienced a considerable increase in the number of seniors we assist; the latest statistics indicate that 28.6% of our emergency food clients are seniors, both those in subsidized apartment buildings and those living independently in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Westlake.

This innovative health self-management program will allow us not only to source healthier food but will provide us the opportunity to work with local celebrity chefs who will offer live demonstrations showing how to prepare it. Matt Fish, chef and owner of Melt Bar and Grilled and a strong LCSC supporter, has stepped up to take the leadership role to engage his colleagues in the community to participate with him. This grant from the Three Arches Foundation will allow LCSC to add a nutritionist to our staff, which has been a goal of ours for years. Guiding our senior clients in making healthy food choices that are affordable, accessible, and easy to prepare will make a significant impact on the well-being of individuals who are historically at risk for both diabetes and hypertension.

We are excited to collaborate with the City of Lakewood’s Department of Human Services in delivering our program at the new Cove Community Center. Our space limitations have prevented us from bringing our creative programming forward. This new space will give us access to a broad audience for our programs and services, will improve the well-being of our vulnerable senior population, and will be a catalyst for future collaborative activities in the community.
