Healthy Lakewood Foundation

February 7, 2022 • Grants Update

Lakewood Community Services Center was the recipient of Healthy Lakewood Foundation’s proactive grantmaking that focused on community needs stemming from the outbreak of COVID-19. Foundation grants of $85,000 in 2020 and $35,000 in 2021 played a significant part in helping us meet the demands for emergency food predicated by the exponential increase in the number of Lakewood residents coming to the Center for emergency food and then to meet the needs of the 1,000+ households receiving home delivery when we made that switch in service delivery. Funding from HLF allowed us to realize our mission to provide the healthiest food possible to the most vulnerable residents in the community. Without foundation support, we would not have been able to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, eggs, and protein on a regular basis. While always important, providing the healthiest and most “user-friendly” food options has never been more critical than during these unprecedented times. HLF has just recently announced its grantmaking priorities for 2022 and has again included responsive grants to support community needs around COVID-19 as the variants continue to have the greatest impact on the most vulnerable members of our community. LCSC has been awarded a grant in the amount of $30,000 to help us continue providing healthy food choices to the households who depend on us more now than ever before. We are grateful to the foundation for their ongoing generous support that validates the work we do in our community.

About Healthy Lakewood Foundation (HLF)

The Healthy Lakewood Foundation was established in September 2018 as part of the Master

Agreement following the closing of Lakewood Hospital. HLF was formed by the Foundation Planning Task Force and through their recommendation to the City of Lakewood and the Lakewood Hospital Association. The Healthy Lakewood Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity. The Healthy Lakewood Foundation was created to ensure remaining assets from the conversion of the Lakewood Hospital will continue to benefit the health and wellness of residents in the City of Lakewood. HLF honors the legacy of Lakewood Hospital and is committed to a path forward that ensures everyone in Lakewood can achieve their fullest health potential. It is with this spirit that HLF works to build trust and responsibly steward funds that will support health and wellness for the benefit of the Lakewood community and its residents for generations to come. The mission of the Healthy Lakewood Foundation is to advance programs, policies, and practices that inspire a Lakewood community in which health and wellness are reflected in all aspects of life.
